Holiday Weight Loss Tips
How
many pounds did you gain during the holidays last
year?
Hello everyone,
This article is inspired by my
indulgence into a bag of chocolate covered almonds this
past Wednesday night. I gave in, and fell hard! The Holidays
are here and I wanted to give everyone some helpful hints
and some pointers on what to stay away from if possible.
First off, it is the Holidays and
I want everyone to enjoy themselves and not have to worry
about every little calorie that goes into your mouth.
Although, with that being said, every meal or snack that
you can control and keep in the realms of your normal
daily nutrition, is a battle won. If you can win the
majority of battles and the most important battle (being
Christmas Dinner) you will almost certain win the WAR!
Next is ALCOHOL! Please keep alcohol
consumption to a minimum. Alcoholic beverages contain
large amounts of calories and sugar. And we all know
our thought process while intoxicated can be corrupted
when choosing a snack before we retire to bed. I find,
drinking a glass of water for every alcoholic beverage
will limit my intake, and unfortunately make me visit
the porcelain bowl an extra two or three times. Also,
choosing vodka based drinks, like Vodka & soda or
Vodka & diet coke will help cut down on calories.
The drinks above only contain 96 calories, versus a can
of beer which has 182 calories. Times these numbers by
three or four (drinks) and you are might as well eat
for two.
BYOD. Bring your own dish to parties,
that way you know there will be at least one thing that
is healthy that you can eat!
Before heading out to a dinner
party, eat something healthy at home. That way you are
not starving when you arrive and look for the snack table.
Choose low glycemic index foods,
so your blood sugar levels don’t go through the
roof. This way you will avoid the sugar coma and you
can keep your energy levels stable.
If you are traveling to see family,
make sure you plan ahead. Pack protein bars, fruit, and
nuts for snacks especially when traveling by plane. AND
DON’T FORGET YOUR WATER!!!
Pack your gym clothes and a pair
of running shoes. You can always at least go for a walk.
If possible, schedule a workout at a local gym every
second day. Your workouts don’t have to be the
best of the year, but they should be 40 minutes in length
using light weights and no rest between exercises. Lots
of circuits guys and gals!
Eat breakfast….it will kick
start your metabolism and get you ready for the day ahead.
Drink plenty of water!!! PLENTY
of WATER!!! Tea and coffee do not count!
Allow yourself some room to have
fun and partake in some goodies. After all, you all have
worked so hard for the past year or so. I just want you
to take it
ONE DAY AT A TIME, and try to do your best!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!
